Olympic Journey - 2010
Bremerton’s Adrian Named Academic All-American by ESPN The Magazine
University of California junior sprinter Nathan Adrian was named a 2010 first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The 2010 NCAA champion in the 100 free, Adrian led the Golden Bears to a second place finish at the NCAA Division I championships, Cal’s best showing since 1986.
A public health major with a 3.79 GPA (including a 4.00 GPA during spring semester), he was also a member of the NCAA champion 200 free, 400 free and 400 medley relay teams.
Adrian, a Bremerton native, was the 2010 Pac-10 champion in five events and earned first-team Pac-10 All-Academic honors. A member of the U.S. National Team, he won a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics as a member of the United States 400 free relay team.
“This is a very deserving honor for Nathan,” said Cal coach David Durden. “Especially considering that he has earned a 4.0 GPA in his last four semesters. And, during this time he was winning individual national titles, helping Cal capture NCAA relay titles and setting American and NCAA records.”
